The Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) has been designed to provide students with experience in various clinical pharmacy practice areas, including hospitals, community pharmacies, and health institutions for a period of one year. The major goal is to prepare students to develop independent judgment skills and to integrate their fundamental knowledge with clinical applications. EVALUATION OF TRAINING
After completion of training at hospitals i.e MMC (Mardan Medical Complex) Mardan and NWGH (north west general hospital) Peshawar as mentioned in detail in APPE manual, the external examiner along with internal examiner takes evaluation of cases collected during training . A total numbers of 200 (100 marks for 4th profession training and 100 marks for final profession training) is given for training evaluation.
The external examiner evaluates the cases collected during training as following.
- By questioning the students related to clinical condition of patient.
- Critically analyze the cases collected.
- Analyzing the management skills of students during training.
- Evaluation and presentation of cases collected during training.
OUTCOMES OF TRAINING PROGRAMS
- Training and internship makes pharmacist to look for effective patient assessment and countering drugs related problems.
- Training makes pharmacist to safely and effectively maintain inventory of medicinal products and to have knowledge about handling sterile and non sterile products.
- To equipped the pharmacist to monitor and identify complications arising from medications.
- Participating in medical rounds, familiarizing themselves with drug distribution, procurement, and consumption through hospital management and information systems.
- During training the pharmacist got enough knowledge about dose adjustment in patient and drug interactions.
- Pharmacist got knowledge about medicines and protocol to follow in different wards and rotations in cardiology, pulmonology, pediatrics, psychiatry, etc.
- Hospital exposure makes the communication skills of the pharmacist effective.
