Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) is a public sector university established by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan in 2009. The University has made its mark in national and international ranking which is evident from the fact that the University is ranked 510th in the world, 313th in research quality globally, and 2nd in the Country and first in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by Times Higher Education 2024. The university has a whopping number of 223 PhD faculty members who teach to 14000, enrolled students in 104 different degree programs. Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) invested in medical, science, engineering, and business education. The university followed a tradition of excellence in education and practice in all of its well-established programs. Similarly, AWKUM has utilized its energies for department of pharmacy. The department of pharmacy AWKUM was established on the 6th of November 2013 and recognized by the pharmacy council of Pakistan on the 18th of august 2018. It is one of the most highly rated pharmacy departments in Pakistan. The Pharm.D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) Program is five years in addition of one year of APPE program as per pharmacy council of Pakistan that was established with strong foundation of basic sciences. Based on which different disciplines related to pharmaceutical sciences, research, and pharmacy practice integrate. The department of pharmacy AWKUM provides students an environment for learning cutting edge innovative trends in the field of pharmacy practice. The initial five year for learning and understanding the concepts of clinical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, quality control of medicines etc. The APPE internship of one year of Doctor of Pharmacy will focus on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations giving the graduate an excellent opportunity to explore his/her future interest. During this period the pharmacists get experience of safe use of medication, side effects, contraindications, and drug-drug interactions. For realizing this fact, the department of pharmacy had signed MOU with different hospitals including Mardan Medical Complex MMC and Northwest General Hospital NWGH Peshawar. In addition, the department of pharmacy offers post graduate courses of MPhil and PhD. Currently the department has 270 undergraduates’ students and 80 MPhil and 20 PhD scholars. Ours college strategic plan is focused on launching workshop and educational events focusing on pharmacy career, latest advances in health sciences research, to broaden its international affiliation and collaboration, and to develop postgraduate programs that are courses- and research-based in due course.
