Chairman’s Message
We prepare graduates for career building employment and or graduate study through a curriculum which includes many courses based on innovative experiential learning approaches. These mutually reinforcing opportunities inside and outside of the classroom provide students with important skill sets such as negotiation, analytical thinking, and effective verbal and written communication. Such skill sets are crucial for students moving forward to pursue careers in an increasingly globalized marketplace. Through the energetic pursuit of political science and pedagogical research including collaborative research with other governmental and non-governmental organizations, the department contributes to a better understanding of the world of politics both in the broader scholarly community and the university and local community. Consistent with our commitment to outreach and service at the national, local and university level we endeavor to create a better understanding of public and world affairs. First, we furnish students a broad survey of the political world, focusing upon the ideas, institutions and processes that shape modern politics. Our goal is to equip students with the analytical means necessary to comprehend the larger issues which give meaning to the political community. Students are able to select courses and work with faculty from all of the major sub-fields in Political Science. Second, we are especially attentive to developing critical reasoning, effective communication, coherent analytical writing, and ethical understanding in each of our students.
