The department of Journalism and Mass Communication is established at Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, the heart city of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. The establishment of the department aims to equip the students with media knowledge so that they could promote and present the soft image of Pakistan, Islam and Pakkhtoon nation in the world through media. Only media practitioners, equipped with a strong theoretical background and technical skills, can fight for national integration and encounter any negative propaganda. It fills the gap arisen in the absence of communication between the stakeholders. Living in this age of information and the global village, no one can deny the importance of media. There has been an enormous upsurge in the media sector in Pakistan in the previous decade. The significant point is that growth has been in the private sector. Everything happened so rapidly that an adequate number of trained people is not available to operate these facilities professionally. Our aim is the achievement of such excellence that will make this department and its graduate a role model not only for Pakistani journalists but for all those who work in media around the globe.
The department has started BS (horns) four years and MA two years’ programmes in semester system. This is just the beginning, INSHALLAH very soon we will touch the pinnacles of glory by making this department one of the leading departments that offer Journalism and Mass Communication and will continue the mission of great Pakhtoon leaders in the field of education.
