The Department of Geology, AWKUM is one of the five departments of the Faculty of Physical and Numerical Sciences in Garden Campus, AWKUM under the guidance of Focal Person Dr Saeed Islam (PhD). The Department welcomes you all who are keen to advance your knowledge in Geological Sciences through research and development for a better planet Earth.

The Department trains in B.S (Geology). The core areas of specialization include Structure Geology, Mineralogy and Petrology, Economic Geology and Mineral Resources, Environmental Geology and Management, Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology and Groundwater Resources Management, Petroleum Geology, Marine Geology and Resources, Applied Geochemistry, Applied Geophysics, Seismology, Palynology and Micropalaeontology, and Mineral Exploration.
The Department of Geology, AWKUM is well established for both research and teaching. The teaching effort is concentrated in the four years of the BS (Geology) degree. The Department of Geology has one of its Strategic Objective of tailoring its academic programs to retain strong responsiveness to basic training in Geological Sciences. Hence, the Department of Geology heartedly embraces the new University vision and mission. About 100 students at the AWKUM do some aspects of geological studies.

Currently, the Department is in the process of establishing a state of the art Structure Geology, GIS/RS, Sedimentology and Geotechnical Laboratory that will enhance further research in the aforementioned disciplines.
