The Department offers a broad range of research and teaching activities in the area of zoology. In addition to our graduate courses, our faculty members are directly responsible for the teaching of microbiology, bioinformatics, biotechnology and biostatistics.
Our Master in Science (MS) and Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) programs are starting from this spring, 2012. Areas of active basic research perspectives include molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, parasitology, fisheries and aquaculture, entomology, immunology, virology, HBV, HCV, and HIV-related research, microbial genetics.
I invite you to browse through our homepage and learn more about our Department, its objectives and academic program.
Vision of the Department:
The Department of Zoology was established with the formation of the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan in 2009. It was aimed to shoulder the sheer tasks to promote and facilitate the Zoology in society and produce Zoology researchers and scholars. Acknowledgement of Zoology is essential to know about the importance of wildlife. Mission of the Department:
The Department of Zoology is committed to the production of well-renounced international standard graduates of, M. Sc., M. Phil and Ph. D level in areas of Zoology including Entomology, Parasitology, Fisheries, Microbiology and Biotechnology maintaining high level of integrity and responsibility at individual and departmental level; and conducting quality research, and producing well-trained teachers and to participate in community development projects. Our integrative focus reflects the importance of strong disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches in research and teaching. We strive for excellence and synergy in our coordinated programs of teaching, research, and service.
Program Objectives:
- To provide graduates who are familiar with basic and an advance level of Zoology and its various disciplines, which are exploited, in many fields of life.
- To provide theoretical and practical knowledge of various zoological aspects, their knowledge, which are required for professional activities in the field.
- The graduates who can manipulate and utilize their training correctly and grasp a realistic approach to the conservation of animals as well as their habitats.
- Maintain major research foci and strive for excellence in the areas of cell and molecular, organismal, ecological, evolutionary, and behavioural biology.
- Promote and foster integration across these foci (e.g., by recruiting faculty with interdisciplinary and integrative research programs).
- Encourage research that has both fielded and laboratory components.
- Encourage research at the interface of empirical and theoretical biology.
- Develop and maintain research programs that comprise the foundations for teaching and service, and maintain those activities at the forefront of emerging disciplines.
- Disseminate the results of research through publication and persuasive presentations.
