Welcome to the Department of Microbiology
The inhabitants of Earth are mostly microbes, and their activities are central to human welfare. Microbes can cause disease, but a properly functioning microbiome is essential for health. Microbes spoil food but drive many forms of food production. Microbes mediate organismic decay but catalyse numerous geochemical processes essential for life on Earth.
The Department of Microbiology at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan is dedicated to providing quality education, through both teaching and research, necessary to meet the needs of this growing field. Our faculty members aggressively pursue research in many areas of the science: Bacteriophage therapy, Microbial biofilm control using phages, microbial biotechnology; immunology; virology; microbial ecology; industrial microbiology; bioprocess technology; environmental biotechnology; medical microbiology; microbial genetics; and others. Research projects are continuously conducted through collaboration with and support from various prominent sources.
Vision and Mission
A key part of our mission is to undertake quality academics and research programs. Our world is changing ever more rapidly due to population growth, global warming, and the emergence of new infectious diseases caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and superbugs. Our mission is to produce skilled personnel with the highest standard in the field of Applied Microbiology to cater to the increasing demand in the country for microbiologists and handled the above challenges.
