Welcome to Environmental Sciences

Environmental Sciences is a field that has gained immense significance in recent years with the unprecedented scale of environmental degradation witnessed in the last few decades. At the Department of Environmental Sciences-AWKUM, students learn ways to preserve and save environment to overcome this degradation and acquire skills to find solutions to complex environmental issues such as climate change, air, water and soil pollution, resource depletion, desertification and others. Moreover, they become able to assess the impacts of human developmental actions on various environmental components and how to manage them. This is fundamentally achieved through interdisciplinary learning from ecology, chemistry, earth sciences, biology, social sciences, physics, and various other disciplines using both theoretical and practical knowledge.

The Department offers undergraduate studies (BS) and a research-intensive MS program in Environmental Sciences. Learning in these programs enable the students to attain careers in a range of areas in both government and private sectors such as waste management, impact assessment, pollution monitoring, water quality, environmental management system, health, safety and environment and natural resource management. Additionally, the Department has enthusiastic faculty who are involved in pioneering research to better comprehend the environment and find sustainable solutions to environmental problems. With these attributes, the Department is not only aiming to offer quality education in environmental sciences but also striving to play its role in protecting the environment, conserving natural resources and building sustainable societies.
