To observe World Water Day, The Department of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, organized screening of a documentary and a walk around the campus on 22nd March 2016.

World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, raise awareness about the protection of this precious thing and inspire others to take action to make a difference. Water is the most basic need of life; without water there is no life. But now, more than ever, human activities are posing a threat to our water supplies through pollution, over extraction, deforestation, new construction and all the activities that fall in the category of development.

The Program started with recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Sajid Ullah, a third year student of the department. Ir. Haider Javed, Lecturer Environmental Sciences gave a brief background of the World Water Day observance and importance of water to our way of life. After that a documentary film Blue Gold: World Water Wars was screened in the conference room of the Department. Blue Gold documents the environmental issues behind why we are rapidly losing our fresh water supplies, the politics behind water ownership and distribution that are worsening the situation, and the scenarios of what will happen as water becomes increasingly scarce. After the documentary, the faculty and students of the department took a walk around the campus. Students were holding banners with messages to raise awareness about the protecting this precious commodity. One of the ideas behind having a special day is to make people think twice about how much water they waste. .The walk ended with Dr. Muhammad Qasim, chairman Department of Environmental Sciences, offering his vote of thanks to the participants of the walk and appreciating such healthy activities organized by the student of the department.
