Seminar on "Seeing is believing: Structural Perspective of Molecular Machines Involved in mRNA Decapping"
Department of Biochemistry organized a seminar on "Seeing is believing: Structural perspective of molecular machines involved in mRNA decapping" on Tuesday Dec 08, 2015, 11.00 am. Dr. Hamayun Sharief will deliver a comprehensive talk on m RNA decapping activator. All the arrangements for this seminar will be made by Dr. Muhammad Arif Lodhi department of biochemistry AWKUM. The abstract of his talk will be:
Abstract: "Structural biology has played an important role in our understanding of how the molecular machines work. The atomic detailed maps obtained by X-ray crystallography tells us how the proteins achieve the complex molecular functions.
mRNA 5′-to-3′ decay pathway is initiated by deadenylation followed by decapping and degradation. mRNA decapping enzyme complex Dcp1/Dcp2 removes the 5′ cap structure on mRNAs and its activity is enhanced by many decapping activator proteins including Pat1, Dhh1, Edc3, Lsm1-7 complex. Structural and functional insights into the role of Pat1 revealed how it engages the two ends of mRNA by interacting with Dhh1 at 3′-end and Lsm1-7 complex at 5′-end of mRNA. Summarizing these results i will present a model that involves the dynamic role of mRNA decapping activators".
