A meeting of all Vice Chancellors of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities was held at the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) to show solidarity with Prof Dr Ihsan Ali, Vice Chancellor AWKUM. The Vice Chancellors expressed their deep appreciation for the efforts put in by Prof Ihsan Ali in establishing a campus full of modern amenities and facilities essential for an academic institution. The vice chancellors showed extreme concern over the treatment meted out to the vice chancellors and demanded that sanctity of the offices of the vice chancellors and academicians must be ensured.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellors expressed extreme dissatisfaction over the present role of the Higher Education Department (HED) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government in disrupting and decelerating the pace with which the universities management would like to progress and develop. The negative attitude of the HED towards the issues faced by the universities has brought the universities literally to a standstill, be the issues related to the financial or academic management. A continuous and persistent drive from the HED in portraying the universities as places of corruption has been extremely damaging to the Higher Education sector of this province and, if left undeterred, would cause irreversible damage. In many instances, it seems as if the office of the Chancellor, a competent authority for the universities, has been bypassed. It was decided to approach the Chairman HEC to hold a meeting of all the Vice Chancellors of Pakistani universities to address issues faced by Universities.
