ABDUL WALI KHAN UNIVERSITY MARDAN
A 2.5 megawatt power plant was inaugurated at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. The project will be completed within seven months with a total cost of 320 million rupees. Before the inauguration ceremony, a high profile meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali, Vice Chancellor AWKUM, where the University Officials were briefed regarding the project. Prof. Sher Alam Khan Registrar, Prof. Dr. Jehanzeb, Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Zahoorul Haq, Dean of Physical and Numerical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, SheerazParacha Chair Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Muhammad Tariq Khan Director Finance, along with the heads of other departments were present in the meeting and gave suggestions regarding the project.
Contractor of the project, Chief Executive of Tie Group, Muhammad Imran while briefing on the occasion, said that the project will be completed by March 2016, where electricity will be generated with the help of gas, coal, and wastes. He added that this is the first ever project in any university of Pakistan.Tie Group has so far completed 4 to 24 MW power projects in different other sectors of the country. While addressing the meeting Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali said that due to the current power crisis in the country, the project is of great worth. He further added that the University has allotted one acre land to the project and with its completion the University will be self-sufficient in the production of electricity and hence, students, staff and faculty will have no problem of electricity short-fall in future.
Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali thanked the Chief Executive and staff of Tie Group for the completion of the project within a short span which shows the expertise of its staff.
