Mrs. Reham Khan, Visit to AWKUM

Mrs. Reham Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Mr. Imran Khan's wife, reiterated that participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities is a positive step towards a peaceful society. She further added that women should not only present themselves on a national level but international platform as well. This she was speaking on the occasion of the final match of Mrs. Malik Saad Invitation Gold Cricket Cup at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, as a Chief Guest.

Provincial Minister for Education, Mr. Atif Khan, Vice-Chancellor, AWKUM, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali, Mrs. Malik Saad and Senior Journalist Mr. Amjad Aziz Malik also addressed the gathering.

In the tournament, 6 women cricket teams from various districts of the province participated. In the final match, after an exciting fight, Mardan Women Cricket team beat Peshawar Women Cricket team by 5 runs.

While addressing the gathering, Mrs. Reham Khan said that women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are extremely talented in all fields of life. She further added that sports are an integral part of any peaceful and successful society and through sports Pakistan has earned a name globally. She further said that the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf, Mr. Imran Khan has high expectations from women of this province and he expects them to earn a name in various fields of life. Moreover, she emphasized that besides sports, women should come forth and play a role in politics, journalism and various other fields. Further in her address, Mrs. Reham Khan said that a Women University will soon be established in Mardan. Furthermore, she appreciated both the teams for their lively performances and congratulated Mardan Women Cricket team for winning the tournament.

Provincial Minister for Education, Mr. Atif khan reiterated that there is a negative perception about our province that relates it to terrorism however today Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan proved that people are not only attaining quality higher education here but are also actively participating in sports activities. He further added that we have been successful in restoring peace in the province and the public of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have generously accepted peace in the region and through our actions we will take this province to an exemplary level on national as well as international level. He also said that in the coming days a national level festival will be held in Mardan.

Vice-Chancellor, AWKUM, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali reiterated that women cricket tournament taking place in Mardan and Mrs. Reham Khan honouring the event with her presence is a historical moment. He further added that Malik Saad Trust is playing an active role in the promotion of sports activities in the province and in this regard Abdul Wali Khan University will extend its full support.

Later, the Chief Guest, Mrs. Reham Khan distributed prizes among players of the winning and runners up teams. The winning team was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 100,000/- while a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- were awarded to the runners up team. Mr. Atif Khan and Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali also announced cash prize of Rs. 100,000/- each for the winning and runners up teams, from their own pockets.

In the end, Mrs. Reham Khan, Mr. Atif Khan and Mrs. Malik Saad were presented University souvenirs and other presents.
