Korean Delegation

ABDUL WALI KHAN UNIVERSITY MARDAN

A nine member Korean Delegation, along with the Provincial Minister for Sports, Tourism, Culture and Archaeology, Mr. Amjad Afridi visited Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.

On the occasion, Director Archaeology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Abdus Samad, Vice-President Korean Master Hand Association, Mr. Sing He Lee, Deputy Commissioner Mardan, Mr. Shahid Ullah and high officials of the university were present.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali welcomed the delegation and gave a detailed briefing on the archaeology and ancient ruins of the province. He said that 11 museums have been established in the province, in a short span, which is a record.

The delegation then had an extensive visit of the university. They displayed great interest in the class rooms, museum and even Majid-e-Zubaida. The delegation agreed upon a joint venture with AWKUM in the form of establishing a joint archaeological institute for which Korean experts will be consulted for understanding the philosophy of Buddhism. The delegation extended special thanks to the provincial government for its extensive support and co-operation in preserving the religious and sacred places of Buddhism.

Provincial Minister, Mr. Amjad Afridi, welcomed the Korean delegation upon their arrival to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and assured them of every possible help and support so that tourism is developed in the province. He reiterated that preserving the religious buildings of Buddhism is the prime responsibility of the provincial government and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Islam teaches us peace and respect for other religions.

Earlier, the delegation also had a visit to the ruins of Takht Bhai where they offered their rituals. The Korean Delegation also prayed for the prosperity and sustainability of Pakistan. In the end, the delegation took lunch with the Vice-Chancellor and other guests and officials of the university. The Delegation praised the hospitality of the Pakhtuns.
