The 68th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with full zeal and honor at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.
In this regard a special function took place at the Main Campus which had the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali as the Chief Guest. On this occasion a profound number of students as well as local dignitaries were present which included former Provincial Minister, Abdul Subhan, Prof. Dr. Humayun Huma, Prof. Dr. Mian Unwan-ud-Din, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Khanzadi Fatima Khattak, Prof. Dr. Farman-ud-Din Bakhshali, Mr. Farhad Khawar, Musarrat Khan Aasi, Haji Muhammad Shafi, Mr. Riyaz Mayar, Mr. Ashraf Khan, Mr. Yousaf Khan and Mr. Hidayat~ur~Rehman Hoti.
The Flag hoisting ceremony took place at 9:00 AM in front of the Main Admin building. On this occasion National anthem was played and all the participants prayed for the solidarity, peace and progress of Pakistan.
Soon after the participants moved towards the main Auditorium where a special function was organized in memory and honor of Haji Sahab Thurangzai in which a plethora of writers and poets participated. The poets belonging to Charsadda were honored with the Haji Sahab Thurangzai award which included Mr. Ikram Ullah Graan, Mr. Muhammad Azam Khan, Mr. Faqeer Abbas Qadria, Mr. Saleem Raz, Mr. Wadud Ashnaghri, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Ghamgeen, Prof. Syed Mehmood Zafar, Mr. Shaukat Ali Khan, Mr. Farman Ullah Jan and Mr. Noreen Aaman Shama.
Prof. Dr. Ali reiterated that had Pakistan not been created, we would have had no identity. He further added that we need to respect and acknowledge our freedom. He concluded his address by saying that the students through higher education can take Pakistan out of problems it is faced with.
