Excavations at Koi Tangay Kandaray

ABDUL WALI KHAN UNIVERSITY MARDAN

The excavations at Koi Tangay Kandaray, Katlang Mardan under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali (Archaeologist / Vice Chancellor AWKUM) revealed remnants of various ancient dynasties dating back to Indo-Greek time (190 BC). The chronology so far developed through this research activities shaped as under:

Chronology Developed:
Top level: Islamic Period (Coins and glazed pottery recovered)
Hindu Shahi Period (number of Sitta Ram coins found and structures exposed)
Scythian Period (Coin and potsherds recovered)
Kushan Period (coins, sculpture and panel pieces recovered)
Indo-Greek Period (Demetrious coin and potsherds recovered)

Antiquities recovered so far:
Our two and half weeks excavation unearthed a total number of Coins 167, Beads 32, Finger Rings 2, Ear rings 1, Sculpture/Pieces 13, Arrow Heads 6, Oil Lamp 1, Animal Figurine 3, Human Figurine 1, Terracotta Disk 4, Slang Balls 2, Pastel and Querns 4.
