A grand function, in honor of the celebration of Abdul Wali Khan University’s five years completion held at the Main Campus in which Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali hoisted the national as well as AWKUM flag. A great number of students, faculty and staff members were present in the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali along with member provincial assembly, Mr. Zahid Durrani cut the cake to grace the 6th Foundation Day ceremony of AWKUM. The Director International Leicester University UK, Mr. Shahid Hussain was also present on the occasion.

Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Khanzadi Fatma, Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Jehanzeb Khan Khalil, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq, Controller of Examination, Prof. Dr. Saeed Islam, Director Administration, Pir Asfandyar, Director Finance, Mr. Faizan Malik and Director HRD, Dr. Amir Zaman were also present in the ceremony.

Soon after, another event took place in the main auditorium of the University in which Advisor on Higher Education, Mr. Mushtaq Ghani was the chief guest. The event started off with recitation from the Holy Quran. The students exhibited a great display of the various sub cultures of different regions and provinces of the country.

The faculty and staff members were awarded certificates and shields for their exemplary performance in the calendar year 2013-14. The best student of the year prize was awarded to Mr. Fazal Muhammad, student of the Department of Management Sciences. The best researcher prize in the faculty of science was awarded to Dr. Wadood, Department of Bio-chemistry while the best researcher prize in the faculty of arts was awarded to Dr. Shahid Jan, Department of Management Sciences.

Other than this, Mr. Asad was announced as the best driver of the year, Mr. Maaz, best cook, Mr. Rizwan Ullah, best administrator, Mr. Zafar Yasin, best security guard, Mr. Jihad, best gardener, Mr. Shahid, best plumber, Mr. Hammed, best in IT and Mr. Izdihar, KPO, Accounts Section was awarded the best performance shield.

On the occasion, the chief guest, Mr. Mushtaq Ghani reiterated that Mardan is a rich land in terms of education. Furthermore, he applauded the efforts of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali for his outclass services in uplifting the standard of education in Abottabad and Mardan. Mr. Mushtaq Ghani inspected the developmental works and various departments at the Garden Campus. He said that we are focusing on the establishment of colleges, universities and campuses in each Tehsil of the province so that access to education is made easier. Speaking about a Women University in Mardan, he assured that the voice of the people of Mardan will be taken to the honorable Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in this regard, very soon the people of Mardan will hear good news.

MPA, Mr. Zahid Durrani also addressed the gathering on the occasion. He said that strong recommendations for further development of AWKUM will be presented. Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali presented the overall picture of the remarkable journey of AWKUM on the occasion and demanded a Women University at Mardan, on behalf of the people of Mardan.
