The department of Political Science, AWKUM organized a one day seminar on 'Comparative Politics' for the M.ph first and second semester students on 23 of January, 2014. The resource person was Dr. Choudhry Ishtiaq Ahmed, Chairman Department of Peace and Strategic Studies, NDU, Islamabad. Professor Dr. Jahanzeb Khalil, Dean Faculty of Arts, AWKUM, Dr. Zahid Marwat, Chairman Department of Political Science, AWKUM and Dr. Manzoor were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Khalil inaugurated the seminar. He welcomed Dr. Ishtiaq and then threw brief light on the importance of comparative politics in new era. He said that there is greater need to study this phenomenon for a country like Pakistan which is going through evolutionary stage. Dr. Ishtiaq gave a detailed presentation on the subject. He said that traditionally politics was limited to the explanation of only constitutional provisions and in one way or the other it can be said to be static. However as the world is growing and so are political institutions, there is need to make a comparative study of various eras and systems to learn from and then develop a system that would be more productive and efficient.

The American system was discussed in detail for some of its strengths and merits. The resource person said that it emerged from its own soil and so better represents the wishes and aspirations of the American people. After more than sixty of its existence, Pakistan has not yet come out of experiments and has not chosen a system to meet the peculiar conditions of the country. At the end there was question answer session. Students showed keen interests in the seminar as could be judged form the quality and quantity of question they asked.
