World Environment Day
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental actions. The 2013 theme for the World Environment Day was Think, Eat, Save.
In celebration of the ‘World Environment Day’ a walk was carried out at the University College of Science Shankar, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. A large number of students accompanied by faculty of all the Departments, including the Department of Botany took part in the walk.
Dr. Saeed Anwar, Dr. Humayun, Dr. Mohib Shah, Dr. Qasim, Dr. Ayaz, Dr. Mushtaq, Dr. Arif Lodhi, Dr. Sahib Gul and Dr. Mehran Ali also participated in the walk on the occasion.
Students and faculty of University College of Science Shankar gathered in bundles and raised placards and banners which had lines written for the preservation of the Environment. The overall campaign also addressed the wastage and losses of food.
Upon the completion of the walk, Principal University College of Shankar Prof. Dr. Saeed Anwar reiterated that Pakistan is an agricultural country but unfortunately the polluted water of the industries is used for growing agricultural crops, which is filled with toxic chemicals that give birth to thousands of diseases in humans including skin cancer.
To aware the masses about the importance of the environment the students displayed stalls and models. World Environment Day was celebrated and hosted with great zeal by the University College of Shankar, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.
Chairman Department of Botany, Associate Prof. Dr. Humayun addressed the importance of forestation and the devastating effects of deforestation.
