Dr. Roman Ullah, a PhD Scholar of Department of Mathematics Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan successfully defended his PhD thesis on October 22, 2013 at the Main Campus. The topic of his thesis was “The Mathematical Modeling and Optimal Control of some Infectious Diseases”
In this regard, a gathering was arranged in the main auditorium of AWKUM. It is worth mentioning here that Mr. Roman Ullah, who completed his PhD thesis under the supervision of Dr. Saeed-ul-Islam, is the first PhD scholar of AWKUM who successfully defended his PhD thesis
The Vice Chancellor AWKUM, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Dean Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Saeed Anwar, Registrar Dr. Saeed-ul-Islam, Heads of all Departments, Prof. Dr. Siraj Islam, UET Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Aftab Khan, COMSATS Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Fazle Haq, Agriculture University Peshawar, Representatives of Private Colleges and Media personnel were also present on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali reiterated that this is a historical day for AWKUM as in a short span of 4 years and 8 months; it produced its 1st PhD. He further said that in the history of Pakistan there would be very few universities who produced its 1st PhD in such a short time. Talking about the PhD faculty of AWKUM, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali said that currently there are 104 PhD faculty members in AWKUM and 57 scholars have been sent abroad for their PhDs while 35 scholars are pursuing their PhDs in Pakistan. In 2015, the number of PhDs in AWKUM would be 224 which would be more than any university of the country would have at that time.
